What Are The Rules For Cabin Luggage With American Airlines

1.    Number of bags
You are allowed to bring one personal item and one carry on bag when you board your American Airlines flight. Your personal item may include a purse, a laptop bag, a backpack or a similar item.

2.    Personal item
Your personal item must be fit under your seat in front of you. The dimensions of your cabin luggage should not exceed 18 by 14 by 18 inches. Diaper bags, strollers, medical or mobility devices, breast milk do not count as your personal item on carrying on.

3.    Carryon requirements
Your carry on should not exceed 22 by 14 by 9 inches must fit in the sizer at the airport. If your items do not fit properly under your seat, they may need to be checked. Soft-sided garment bags up to 51 inches can also be taken as your carry-on item. Musical instruments are also considered as a carry-on item. It also must fit in the overhead bin. If your musical item is too big, you can purchase an extra seat for the instrument. The instrument must not weigh more than 75 kg

4.    Pets American Airlines Reservations allow you to carry on your pets such as dog or cats, as a substitute for your standard carry on bag. Your pets must be placed in a carrier and also be able to stand up, turn around and lie down. Your carrier must meet the sizes and structure requirements set by the airline and must weigh 20 pounds or less with your pet in it.

5.    Medical exceptions
Medical exceptions to carry-on bag restrictions are allowed for those with a diagnosed medical problem. You are allowed to bring an oxygen tank despite its size and explosive compressed contents when you onboard the aircraft. You are required to brought these exceptions at least 48 hours in advance by calling the airline's reservation line.

6.    Prohibited items
Some items are too dangerous to bring on board an aircraft. These may include alcoholic beverages over 140 proof, firearms, bleach, fireworks, explosives and defense sprays. TSA will only allow you duty-free liquids through security in your carry-on bag if they are packaged in a security tamper-evident bag
